*More Information on the Student Director Point Value Scale: As no two shows are alike and roles within director pairs often vary, this scale was created to accommodate the work each individual student director puts into a production. The role of the student director should be clearly decided between the student and their adult supervisor before the production beings.
One Act
Points Awarded | Reasoning |
2 points | 2 points will be awarded to student directors who act more as a director’s assistant. In this pairing, the adult is doing more than 50% of the work. The student is mostly a helper for implementing the adult’s ideas rather than actively directing and making decisions of their own. |
3 points | 3 points will be awarded to student directors who are equal partners with the adult director and take on 50% of the work. In an equal partnership, both the student director and the adult are actively making decisions and implementing them together. |
4 points | 4 points will be awarded to student directors who take on more than 50% of the work. In this case, the adult is acting mostly as a supervisor. The student director must the person making most of the decisions and doing most of the work in implementing their ideas. |
